4 Types of Students

From Pirke Avot (Lesson's of the Fathers) :

"There are four types among those who sit before the wise: the Sponge, the Funnel, the Strainer, and the Sieve. Some are like the sponge which absorbs everything; some are like the funnel which takes in at one end and lets out at the other; some are like the strainer which allows the wine to go out and retains the dregs; some are like the sieve which lets out the bran and retains the fine flour."

Jeff, regarding the disaster in Japan, I pray that all those that you call family and friend are safe.

Thank you FTP. We do have some associates in that devastated area. We are reciting psalms for everyone. May G-d protect us all.

Yes, May God protect us all. The world we live in has been made imperfect and therefore evil, well, bad things will always be apart of our world yet God, he is always with us and if we trust in him he wants only 'good' for us yet we as humans we are imperfect and I could go on and on and the world turns round and round.

Jeff, I have immediate family studying at the University in Tokyo. It was only yesterday that she was first able to connect with us. She was found to be safe in the Phillipines, traveling on a spring break trip. At this time she is thinking that she will not return to Japan but stay in the Phillipines for the remainder of the semester and/or when it is safe she would return to Japan to assist with the rebuilding.

Continued Prayers for All

FTP - I'm glad your relative is safe.

On a different note, for the record:

"The world we live in has been made imperfect and therefore evil"

I strongly disagree.

"...yet God, he is always with us and if we trust in him he wants only 'good' for us..."

I strongly agree.

You've caught me curious.

Perhaps you have taken issue with my choice of words in which I would clarify by stating, "Our world was created perfectly by God however..."

Your thoughts?

FTP, I agree with your clarification much better. I have a slightly "differing" view of the relationship between Man, the Creator, and the Creation than most westerners based on studies with my Spiritual Teachers. Maybe we can talk about it some time - over coffee!

Jeff, I understand we have differing views yet I also know that their are spiritual truths (similarities) in both of our beliefs in which we share in common.

Maybe we can talk about it some time - over coffee!

Only if, well, I quite like tea. You buy tea for me and I'll buy coffee for you.

Deal. We can both have tea. I prefer black ceylon w/cardammon and splenda.

No Deal.

Unless you...Splenda?

Splenda poisons the body, it is full of toxins Jeff.

If we are to talk over tea, which btw ceylon w/cardammon is very fine, I would insist that you use a bit of healthy real pure and honest sugar as your sweetner.

So then. In return I need to ask, which quite reminds me of some(soft laugh) TV show...

Deal or No Deal Jeff?

...in that case I'll bring my own splenda! lol
