Another Great Silat Kuntau Tekpi Seminar

Sammy Performs Buah #8 on Eric

I'm pleased to report another outstanding Silat Kuntau Tekpi seminar! After a grueling hour of Senamentua, we covered the following buah:

- Kembang Layar
- Jerai Menumpang
- Lipat Sotong
- Patah Kemudi

Yet again, numerous applications from Pekiti were given for each technique. Its great that we have people of so many different body types to practice (or should I say "experiment") on. When we are locking and twisting our training partner, our main concern is for his safety. You can very well imagine the damage that could be done when the locking buahs are applied in real-time without regard for the opponent.

I encourage all of you to acquire a set of practice tekpi (also known as "sais") as I will be starting to teach some basic drills with single and double weapons in the weeks to come.

Cigku Muda Davidson,

That was a great class. I can barely stand up today because of the double shot of Dragon Port from Senaman Tua. One thing that I have always admired about you is that you have never stopped learning, growing, and forging your own path. Tekpi is an incredible system and flows perfectly with Kali. When will the next seminar be?

Salamat,
"SKT Student"

Hello and thank you "SKT Student". By the way a "double shot of Dragon Port" as you put it sounds like a sweet wine that goes well with dessert. The next time you're on the receiving end of a buah like Kembang Layar, you'll appreciate why we do Dragon Port in the first place.

Also thank you for the compliments. At the beginning of 2005, Guru Gorka Echarri and I toasted the new year by saying "The Best Times are Ahead of Us!" And yes, we have made SO MANY great accomplishments this year, it's almost hard to believe.

Yet still, there is more to learn, more to do, and more to achieve...You damn well BET we're going forward!

Peace,

It is very interesting to see that Buah 8 of Silat Kuntau Tekpi USA is Buah 9 of Silat Kuntau Tekpi Malaysia. It seems that Guro Omar Hakim has changed the syllabus somewhat. All in all, a tremendous effort by Guro Jeff and his students. Keep up the good work!

Asalaam Aleikum Amirul,

Ramadan kareem. Thank you so much for the words of encouragement, and the corrections contained in your previous comment. We are honored to have the opportunity to study and practice Silat Kuntau Tekpi. I also have to thank you for "introducing" me in a roundabout way to Saiful Azraq.

Now on my syllabus, buah #8 is Jerai Menumpang...not so in Malaysia? I'll consult Omar.

On behalf of my students please pass our warmest salaams to our SKT family in Malaysia.

Salamat,
JD

Wasalaam Brother Amirul,

Jazakallah for the syllabus. Yes, the order seems to be different in a few places. I'll mention it to Omar the next time I speak with him, and I will pass along your salaams.

So that was you in the video? Ah, you took some hard falls, Brother! Thanks again for your words of encouragement. By the way, I promised Saiful that I would send him a dvd of the last SKT seminar here. If you should also happen to view it, please let me know what you think.

Okay-lah...

Salaam,
JD

Assalamu'alaikum

It was a tremendous effort by all to produce that dvd. Cikgu Lan was sick (fever if i remember correctly), Cikgu Adlan's skin ripped off from excessive Buah Kuning and due to amateur cameramen (not Brother Omar, he was the director :) ) we had to do up to a max of 6 to 8 takes for just one buah.

When will you send the tape to Saiful? I'll make sure to bother him enough to get a look at the seminar footage. Thanks for the info.

You don't have to Brother Jeff. Saiful's copy is enough. I'll just go and watch with him and ask him to do a copy for me.

When will you guys come down to Malaysia? Come here and meet your brothers and sisters of SKT Malaysia. You can also meet Pak Guru Sani and his family, especially Cikgu Izat (not Izhar like Brother Omar mentioned in his blog). His real name is Khairunnizar.

Wassalaam
