If it’s Sunday, it must be Silat Melayu! Today’s class: understanding how a specific buah can be executed as pukulan (striking) or kuncian (locking) depending on the niyat (intention) of the practitioner. Empty-hand examples were duplicated with single and double tekpi for added clarity.
We like to think (and hope) our dear friend Coach Lan would be proud!

Asalaamualeikum Coach,
I promise you a video clip.
JD
wa'alaikummussalam... that will be great!
....I don't think my Granddad's knife in hand would stand a chance against all of them! (laugh with a smile) So then, from my point of view, I would prefer to think of myself as if standing behind that fine group of gentlemen rather than out front and directly facing them.
Brilliant yet,...yikes!
I have to face these thugs on a weekly basis. They're meaner in person.
@Beginner,

...meaning that this group of men have and are learning how to skillfully fight using unorthodox fighting methods?
I would think that to be a good thing.

Never ever underestimate the power of what you can achieve if you truly and honestly concentrate on putting your mind, heart and soul into it,... Kudo's to you for learning and toughing it out with these guys, or 'thugs' as you so endearingly named them. As you move forward, listen and trust Guro Jeff, I understand that he started learning and practicing martial arts at a young age as well.
Best Regards
@ Beginner
^^^^ See? What am I always telling you?
Guro,
See? What am I always telling you?
do you mean
"Shut up"
or
"This floor won't vacuum itself"

@Guro Jeff,
Every beginner
needs a name,
"Spitfire"
would do...
